TERMS AND CONDITIONS

At Windstone Farm, we prioritize cultivating dahlia tubers with the highest level of clean gardening practices to ensure they are as “virus-freer” as possible. We strive to achieve truly virus free tubers.

I cannot guarantee that my Premium varieties are certified as virus free.  However, with due diligence and transparency, I am one of only two vendors in the US that are offering dahlia tubers with significantly reduced levels of virus compared to what is typically sold.  My Premium varieties are grown in their own garden beds, away from any plants known to be infected.  All the foundation stock (tubers and cuttings) have tested negative for the three most important dahlia viruses (DMV, TSV, & TWSV) before being planted in the garden.  Throughout the growing season beneficial insects, yellow sticky cards, and insecticidal soap and Spinosad are used to monitor for and control aphids and thrips to help minimize the spread of virus.  Each fall, a random selection of 30-40% of the field grown plants are tested for the same three viruses; any that test positive are removed.  In November of 2024, DMV virus was found in 12% of the plants tested and TSV was found in 1%.  Therefore, despite my best control efforts, it is possible that a similar percentage of the remaining plants could be carrying one of these viruses.

If your newly acquired Premium tuber starts to grow with obvious signs of virus, please send me photos and an email and we will discuss a replacement or refund.  If the tuber has been growing as a healthy plant for you for 6 weeks or more, and then starts showing signs of virus, then it is more likely that the virus entered the plant in your growing situation rather than coming to you already infected.

For my High-Quality tubers, all newly acquired tubers are pre-sprouted and must test negative for TSV and TWSV before being planted.  They are not tested for DMV.  Follow-up testing for these two viruses is performed in the spring on a subset of previously grown plants; any positives are discarded.  I have documented transmission of TSV in my field when plants were tested the following spring, therefore it is possible that the High-Quality tubers being sold could have been infected the previous growing season.  But, with my repeated testing and exclusion of these viruses, my tubers as a population should have significantly reduced levels of TSV and TSWV than most other vendors.

We guarantee that each tuber is healthy, accurately labeled, and has at least one visible eye.  However, once received by the buyer, we cannot be held responsible for tuber issues resulting from improper storage, unexpected weather conditions, suboptimal gardening practices, or damage caused by fungi, insects, animals, or environmental factors. This includes tuber rot due to overwatering, exposure to excessive cold, or heat and drought stress.

All shipments with USPS and FedEx are insured up to $100 for no additional cost.  Claims for stolen, missing, or damaged shipments can be filed using your tracking number.  Please note, insurance does not cover cold damage, and we avoid shipping during extreme cold conditions.

If a buyer requests to have dahlias shipped early in the season, when the risk of freezing en route is possible, then the buyer and NOT Windstone Farm, accepts the risk and financial loss due to damage during shipment.

Upon receiving your order, inspect the tubers immediately to ensure they are undamaged and are the variety you actually ordered.  Notify us within three days of receipt if there are any issues, providing photos and a description via email or our contact form.

Once you confirm receipt of a satisfactory shipment, we are not responsible for subsequent damage due to storage conditions, growing environment, weather extremes, or pest damage. Dahlia varieties sprout at varying rates, typically between two to six weeks under optimal conditions (60°F, in moist potting soil).  Occasionally, a tuber with a visible eye may still fail to grow.  If you have concerns, contact us by July 1 of the current growing season. Our replacement policy covers only the purchase price of the tubers; shipping costs are non-refundable.

When your dahlia blooms and you discover that it was incorrectly labeled, send a photo and notify us by October 1 of the growing year. After review, a replacement may be issued the following year or a refund offered.  Shipping costs are non-refundable.

Windstone Farm reserves the right to cancel any item or order due to crop shortages or unforeseen natural events before shipment. Full refunds will be issued for any unshipped items.

All sales terms apply to the current growing season.
